Casa giusta

Casa Giusta is a renovation project for a 1970s apartment of approximately 120 square meters in San Miniato, Tuscany, commissioned by a young couple.

The project began with an unusual request: to design an apartment around the great-grandparents’ old table and bring the joy of childhood family meals into the home. The table thus becomes the unit of measurement for the project, which aims to adapt the traditionally laid-out apartment with a central hallway to the needs of contemporary living.

The design strategy adapts the apartment to the needs of the young couple by creating fluid spaces achieved through a single built-in wall that separates the living-kitchen area from the sleeping area, allowing for a seamless connection between the spaces and maximum openness.

The use of natural materials, such as wood and marble, the thoughtful use of natural light, and Franciscan simplicity—enhanced by the contrast with the family heirlooms in the living area—convey a sense of simplicity and tranquility. Similarly, some of the images created by Medulla Studio explore the interaction between performance and space and play with the idea of reversing the sense of coldness often associated with contemporary architecture.
