Casa giusta

Casa Giusta is a renovation project for a 1970s apartment measuring approximately 120 square metres in San Miniato, Tuscany, commissioned by a young couple and developed by architects Matteo Gallerini and Cristina Toni.

The idea stems from an unusual and poetic request: to create a home around the great-grandparents’ antique table, guardian of childhood memories and family lunches. From a simple piece of furniture, the table thus becomes the unit of measurement and focal point of the project, capable of transforming a traditional layout with a central corridor into a fluid and contemporary space.

The heart of the design strategy is a single double-sided piece of furniture that runs through the flat, dividing the living area from the sleeping area. It is not just a piece of furniture, it also incorporates everyday functions, storage solutions and even a “maritime-style” designer staircase leading to the attic, becoming a real living space.

The kitchen was conceived and designed around the old table, placed at the centre as an element of dialogue between past and present. The materiality of the wood contrasts with the minimalist furnishings, suspended in time, emphasising the continuity between family roots and contemporary life.

Natural materials such as the Fiemme Tremila wood flooring in Riflesso colour and marble, the skilful use of natural light and an almost Franciscan compositional rigour, enriched by the presence of family furnishings, create an essential yet welcoming atmosphere, capable of conveying simplicity, warmth and a sense of tranquillity.
